This small tutorial will show you two tips to add a professional touch to your video, perfect for any kind of video!

Needed Files:

Mask Image

Step 1

Open Corel VideoStudio and insert your video unto the timeline. Then click the Color Correction button button and lower the saturation a little bit. The goal is to lower it just enough to make it more black and white, while not totally removing the colors. I set mine at -13.

Step 2

Then insert a black color block unto Overlay Track #1 and extend it the length of your video. This is important.

Step 3

Click the Alignment Options and click “Fit to Screen” button, which will stretch the color block the full length of the screen. Duh?

Step 4

Click the Mask and Chroma Key button and enable Apply Overlay Options checkbox. Then as the type, set Mask, and load up the mask you downloaded.

Conclusion

Well, there you have it. A nice and simple way to make extremely professional looking video! I’ve seen this used in Documentaries, skate board videos, and others. Really looks amazing. Here is the before/after video:

This is a great effect that can be used in time warp videos, or other videos where you want a different kind of motion-blur you can't get using just a filter.

Files Needed:

Download this image, this is our mask image. You’ll need it:

Step 1

Launch Corel Video Studio and insert your video clip. I’m using a quick video I recorded from a video game. Copy it, and paste it (note: this step is not needed if your clip is already in the video pane). You can see the video now in the video’s pane (the place with all the thumbnails).

Step 2

Now let’s add a video filter. Select the Zoom Motion filter from the Video Filters pane and drag it unto your video. Then click the Customize Filter button, and for the start and end keyframes, set the blur value to 50. Set the mode to Camera. Click OK.

Step 3

Now go to “Share” and click Create Video File and choose Same as First Video. This will render it with the same settings as the first video, insuring you get the same quality and size. Choose a name and location for it and click the SAVE button. This video’s thumbnail now appears in the Video’s pane also.

Step 4

Click the video in the timeline and drag it to the video Overlay Track 1. Remove the zoom motion filter and under Alignment Options, click Fit to Screen. Now drag your new video you made in step 3 to Video Track.

Step 5

Now click the video on Overlay Track 1 and go to Mask & Chroma Key. Click Apply Overlay Options and choose Mask from the drop down box. Click the + Sign and find/load the mask image you downloaded.

Conclusion

Wait for it to refresh and you can see our effect. The motion blur is applied heavily but with the center portion more clear, so it looks like a zoom-motion effect. A quick and easy way to make a great zoom effect.

This is a cool technique I discovered while making a logo for myself. It's a flicker out effect, like someone turned off an old TV, or a TV's power got cut off, or something like that.

Here is a preview of this technique I used on a logo for a site I own.

Step 1

Launch Corel Video Studio and import a video by dragging it from the videos pane unto the timeline. I’m using this stock sea video that comes with VideoStudio, but you can use what ever you want.

Step 2

Now let us make our video look more old and grainy. Go to the video filters pane and drag the Film Pro filter unto your video.

Use the following settings I’ve highlighted. Be sure to click the preset in the bottom. This will make our video look more old-style, and better for what we want.

Step 3

Now let’s add a video panning filter to give a nice zoom effect, like the cameraman was zooming in on the building in the video. Edit the panning filter and click the first keyframe (it should already be selected) and set the zoom ratio to 100, and then center the box.

Now select the second, and last, keyframe and make the box smaller my dragging one of the corner nodes. Position it like so:

Click OK to exit the dialog and save your settings.

Step 4

Now I’m going to speed this up. Click the Playback speed button under the Video tab and lower the speed percent to 200%-250%, what ever seems best to you. I want to keep this video shorter. Playback might be jumpy, but it won’t be once you render it.

Step 5

Next drag a color block unto the timeline and overlap the video with it, like this:

Ok good. You can play around with lengths by dragging more/less, what ever works. Trial and error. Now go up to Effects and in the drop down box click Masks. Drag Mask A into the are between video 1 and the color block.

Drag the black color block as small as you can while keeping it overlapped. This is important for a future step. Now we want to render this out. Go to the Share tab and click Create Video File and choose “Same as Project Settings”. Save it on your desktop, since it’s a temporary file. Once it’s done, which could take a while depending on your video and your computer, there should be a new video in the videos pane. Delete everything from your timeline and insert this new video.

Step 6

Add another block and overlap it again. We want this color block to start overlapping halfway though the colored-lines effect, right when the red starts to take over, so play around and see where exactly that is.

Now add another transition, but this time add the “Power Off” transition from the F/X menu. Play back the video, you should get the effect demonstrated at the start of this tutorial. If not, don’t worry. It’s all about timing, maybe you had the Mask A transition to long, or to short. Just experiment with different transitions and time lengths and videos, you’ll get something good… hopefully.

This tutorial will show you a new kind of text effect, one you see in lots of really cool professional movies. This goes beyond the custom title presets that VideoStudio has, be prepared for a lot of rendering! But in the end, the effort was worth it. And I'll show you how to make it even more professional using masks!

Step 1

Launch VideoStudio and add the “The End” title preset. You can see which one I choose below and how it looks.

Step 2

Now I made the text Arial, and made that bold. I liked it better then the default font Arial Bold, because it wasn’t quite as bold. Size doesn’t matter, don’t bother with it. We only need to work on the style.

Now let’s remove the crummy border.

And let’s make a nice, techy, simple drop shadow glow using these settings:

We now have pretty awesome text. It fades in and out. Sweet.

Step 3

Great. Render the video out in your desired format. For this tutorial I am going with a more simpler Non-HD setting that’s quicker.

Now delete what’s in your timeline and insert your rendered video unto Overlay Track 1. Now you can see why I told you size didn’t matter. You can make it any size you want! I’m leaving as it is, but aligning it to the left.

Step 4

Now, in the attribute tab, use these two settings (highlighted):

Now play back your video. You can see it comes in from the left and at the same time fades in. I am also going to add a Black color block and make the video fade out by dragging the Color block over the video (and if it isn’t crossfade you can add it from the Effect tab).

Step 5

So I render my text again and am finished! You can play around with it. If you want to make it different speeds, select the clip and drag the handles that appear under the video preview. To make it slower, drag the first one over to the right, like this:

Here’s my preview, hope you enjoyed this tutorial.

This tutorial will show you how to use masks to make it look like you are looking out of a scope on a shotgun. You can use it for war movies, hunting movies, or what ever you want. It's a really easy tutorial.

What you need:

FieldVideo_forTutorial.MOD (video)
Snipe-mask2.png (image)

Step 1

You can download the Scope mask image we’ll be using. Feel free to use this in personal and commercial projects. So let’s start by opening up VideoStudio and importing the video you’ll be using. You can download the one I am using above. Put the video on Overlay Track 1.

Under the Attribute tab, click Mask & Chroma Key. Select the check box by Apply Overlay Options and load in your mask (click the “+” sign and find your image).

Step 2

As you can see, it’s stretched. Do your best to make it as square as possible, Scopes in real like aren’t oval. Then make it as large as you can, so we can see what’s going on and center it.

Now you can play it back. Cool isn’t it? The camera shake adds to the relistic’ness of it. Never use a tripod when filming scenes that are inside scopes, it just isn’t relistic. No one can hold a gun so steady that there isn’t any movement.

Step 3

Now I’m going to do some color changes. Click the Edit tab, and then Color Correction button. I’m going to bring HUE down to -30, Contrast to 18, Brightness to 8, and Gamma to -5.

Looks much better. The grass has a burnt dead look to it, like it’s set in the late fall. Makes the video more interesting.

Step 4

Now I am going to add slight grain to the image, just something that’s “there” but not to noticeable. Add the Film Pro video filter and use click the “Reset to None” preset. Then use these settings:

That’s it for this tutorial. Hope you learned something cool and new. Please post your comments on this tutorial, and watch my result below:

We're back with part two of "Making an Awesome Sunrise!" In this tutorial we finish up the sunrise with masks. This adds more realism to the scene my making the sun come up behind the ocean, instead of on top of it.

Ok let me explain what we are going to do. We are going to use a mask to make the sun stay behind the ocean, and not on top of it. How? Using masks. If you still have the two rendered videos from last time, we place the one with no lens flare on top of the other one, and cut of the top half. This way you still have the reflection of the sun on the ocean, but the sun itself is not on top of the water, thus making it look like it’s behind and not on top. Confusing?

Step 1

Load both your rendered videos from the last tutorial into a new project file. The second video with the lens flare should be on top, and the first video with no lens flare, only the “light” filter, on the bottom “Overlay Track 1″.

Select the video on “Overlay Channel 1″ and up in “Attribute” click “Alignment Options” and “Fit to Screen.”

Step 2

Now, click on the icon for the original video and take a screenshot with “PTRN SCRN” on your keyboard. Paste this in an editing program (I’m using Paint Shop Pro, but you can use Photoshop, GIMP, or what ever program you have).Cut out the image to the exact corners. Here’s what you should have:

Now select the top three-quarters of the image (the sky) and fill it in with white. Then select the bottom one-quarter and fill it in with black. We now have:

Good. Save it to your hard drive. Anywhere, even your desktop. Once we’re don you shouldn’t need it again so you can always delete it.

Step 3

Back to VideoStudio now, with the video on “Overlay Track 1″ still selected, go to “Mask and Chroma Key”.

Select “Apply Overlay options” and choose “Mask” from the drop down box.

Then click the “+” sign and browse for your mask. It might ask you to convert it to a 8-bit image. Click Yes.

Then select it, if it isn’t already selected. You should notice a change right away to your video. Good.

If you noticed, we have an error.

The problem is that the two videos aren’t the same exact size. We can fix this my dragging the little yellow node on the “Overlay Track 1″ video up a notch. You’ll have to play around with it to get it right, but you should have this after your done:

Now, we fixed one but got another- Error that is. You can see the sun UNDER the other image. Wrong! In rea life, we don’t have ultra-ray vision to see under the earth. What I did was add a solid color block and cover up the bottom. Here’s my result (oh yeah, you’ll have to add another Overlay Track to do this):

Now watch your video, along with your last video. Notice the difference? I’ll bet you do. Here’s the two results, the one from the last tutorial, and the one from this tutorial.

Hope I tought you a little about masks. If not, all well, post a comment and maybe someday I’ll make a better tutorial on it. Cheers.

Ever wanted to film the sun coming up over the ocean with it's brilliant orange and red sky? Well, now you can. This tutorial will show you how to make a sunrise using "light" and "lens flare" filters!

Step 1

Launch Corel VideoStudio and insert a video into the player. The one I’m using came bundled with the program and is by default in the videos screen. This is the one I’m going to use. I also cut it down to 2 seconds. You can do that by clicking on the “2″ for two seconds in the timelime and clicking the scissor icon by the video preview.

Now that’s it’s cut down, apply the “light” video filter to the video.

Now customize the filter and use the following settings. You can just copy mine. It took me a while to get it to look right, and I’m sure you don’t want to take that long.

Now copy the attributes of keyframe 1 to keyframe 2. Now, on keyframe 2, change the settings to these:

Now render our your video in your preferred format. Now, delete the video on your timeline and load in the video you just rendered. And here is my finished result:

Step 2:

Now that you got the background done, apply the “lensflare” video filter unto your video. And again, customize the filter and use the settings I worked so hard at getting. ^_^

Now copy the attribute from keyframe 1 to keyframe 2, but increase the size from 30 to 42 and the intensity knock up a notch.

Now what I did was add several more keyframes by double clicking on the “Keyframe bar”. When what I did was make sure the lens flare was always inside the bright area from the “light” filter, because it left that area. I have six keyframes total. It’s easy to figure out.

And the final result:

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial as much as I had discovering something new for VideoStudio. I’m happy with the result, but it could use some changes. I’ll play around with some masks so the sun isn’t on top of the water, that sort of ruins the relisticness of it (is that even a word?).
